Saab Series

SAAB SERIES

The history of Saab began with aviation. The company was founded in Sweden in 1937 and initially manufactured military aircraft. After the war, its technical expertise and aerodynamic thinking became an important part of its approach to automobile design.

Saab also has a special connection with Finland. In 1968, Saab-Valmet was established in Uusikaupunki, and production of the Saab 96 began there in 1969. Saab convertibles were later also produced in Uusikaupunki.

In 2026, I visited the annual gathering of Saab enthusiasts at the Railway Museum in Hyvinkää. The gathering was held for the 21st time.

After the event, I decided to create a small series of Saab watercolors.

In these works, I explore the form, proportions and details of the cars, as well as the atmosphere of their era. I am particularly drawn to Saab’s Nordic design language, where engineering thinking meets distinctive form.

The series also includes works by my younger daughter Nina. They are her view of Saab — freer, bolder and more spontaneous.
